No surprise here! Women are the dominant force using social media channels today and marketers are taking notice! This report issued by +Weber Shandwick Digital and KRC Research highlights some of the key statistics in social media use and purpose by North American women today.
From the infographic report:
Recent research from Pew Research Center found that the percentage of female Internet users who use social networking sites well exceeds that of men (75% vs. 63%, respectively) and women are also more active in their use of these sites. Women are the “low-hanging fruit” of social media today and deserve closer attention from marketers.

Another, yet another early. EARLY indication of "divine feminism."
Great and useful information for me and our women's organization!
+Lynette Young, what are your thoughts on the early results on the #IfIHadGlass campaign gender breakdown? +TechCrunch is reporting an 80% male response rate on Google's most recent social media campaign. Given that women's activity on social media is significantly higher, what do you think caused the discrepancy? I would love to hear your thoughts on this! The link to the article is below: http://techcrunch.com/2013/03/03/google-glass-women-problems/
Women use social networking more than men? Shocker lol.
+Abby Bouchon I think the media blows things like this out of proportion. The reason Google+ and Glass have a 'women problem' is because the MEDIA talk that it does – so that makes it a self-fulfilling problem. I for one would love Google Glass and fully intend on PURCHASING a pair in the fall when they come to market.
+Lynette Young I mean…it's our identify, who we are…to share, nurture and delve deep – makes total sense! Interesting to translate emotion to numbers!
+Lynette Young & +Susan Serra. You are correct it being our "identity". I've often wondered why we have to network like "males". Male models don't always work for women yet it's been about all available to us. Just a thought. . .
"Low hanging fruit" LOL! Not news. Women are more communicative and tend to create community with others more easily than men.
Yes +Jackie Gordon Singing Chef, we do. It's the way we're "wired".
Could be that women have more time to play on social media than men. Do you really call this stuff work?
+leonard mckee. For those of us who recognize the value and importance of social media as part of a business marketing plan, then YES – it's work. Trust me I do it every day!!! Albeit enjoyable "work".
yentas
+leonard mckee it's work when you are responsible for crafting a technical marketing, public relations, search, communications and customer service/support initiative like a lot of the women here I know (including myself). Thinking women only 'play' online and infer than only men 'work' is borderline misogynistic.
Yes, women value communication more, it's no surprise we do the same online. Abby Bouchon – I think men may tend to be early adopters, but women might use it more in the long run.
+Lynette Young Amen, amen amen!!!
+Lynette Young Thanks for sharing this data with us.
No
By women see me as the basis from within the foundations of the universe and the forces of links link community and at the same time is a double-edged sword, to excel and to compete, but in the way of proper display there help themselves and help others
