Great news. We are nowhere near done.
"The theft of America’s intellectual property costs the U.S. economy more than $100 billion annually and results in the loss of thousands of American jobs."
Really? Are there actual reports that prove this or are they taking what the MPAA & RIAA say as gospel?

What about PIPA?
"Really? Are there actual reports that prove this or are they taking what the MPAA & RIAA say as gospel?"
I was just having this exact convo with my partner. There is no evidence. In fact, the evidence shows the opposite.
+Joltrast . that one is still on the table.
Cynical me, I'm worried it's just sleeping for a while, they're gonna dig it up as soon as nobody notices anything.
+Lynette Young I think PIPA has also been tabled, for now. It's an election year — they'll be back (or they'll try to slip these through attached to something else).
For the record, I contacted Senator Menendez for a meeting regarding all of this and I heard crickets 😉
Woo hoo!!!
+Julia Sherred The research – real, scientific research – shows that non-commercial copyright infringement is economically beneficial. It's a fact the RIAA/MPAA and kin have successfully kept out of the media.
The other dirty secret is the corporations pushing this bill are the same ones who backed and distributed P2P software back in the day, but that was long enough ago that people have forgotten.
+Maya Posch That is what I said. The research shows the opposite to what is being claimed in this article about losses.
The Canadian government has even done studies to see if it has had an impact on our economy and said nope, our media is doing better.
If a Senator said it, it must be true!
In all seriousness, the man is just doing what got him into office. IE: Suckling from the teat of corporate interest.
It will take almost no effort for lobbyists to dust this off and try to sell it again. Dance today, prepare for tomorrow.
It's just a retreat, a delay, awaiting the right moment and the right politician
The regrouping has already started – 4 people here in New Zealand have been arrested by the police and FBI for earning over (alleged) $100 million by hosting Megaupload which it is claimed is mostly hosting pirated entertainment industry property.
Why make the arrest NOW? The timing is too cute for words. "You see, this is why we need SOPA" is likely to be the upcoming mantra.

I agree, VERY suspicious arrests. Assuming that the majority of the usage of the site was legal, the only thing that should have been shut down is the illegal content. If something like SOPA went through, the same thing would happen. 99% of legal content would suffer for the 1% of the illegal (numbers made up by me to show a point).
I have the opposite read on that. Crackdowns are already easy (with due process, even!) without SOPA/PIPA.
Ergo we don't need SOPA / PIPA
+Jeremiah Parry-Hill & +Authors of Google+ My first thought was did they go through legal channels before just showing up FBI guns ablaze? No, strike that. My FIRST thought was "wow, the MPAA & RIAA got lazy and sent OUR FBI paid for with OUR money to go be thugs to do their business…"
I'm certainly not siding with the Megaupload guys. But I'm acutely interested in the timing of the FBI initiated raid. They may be collecting 'case studies' to provide 'evidence' of the need for the legislation.
I wonder if they realize how transparent this all is.
