Just in case you needed more proof that interacting in Google+ is good for you across the entire Internet (especially the parts Google has…) here's a quick screenshot of my Google News (https://news.google.com) page.
Today's top story is about the impending doom from the flu virus in the United States. (Note: Did you get your flu shot yet??!!) Right below that is a Google+ post from +Christopher Penn talking about the same topic. Chris' name, face, and content are top of page with the hottest news around. For free. And now because of that, not only is Chris top of mind to me, he's getting an entire piece of content written about HIM from ME that I'm sharing with YOU.
So, like everyone else on the Internet wants to really know…what does this mean to YOU?
1. Post about relevant news content in a compelling and natural way in Google+
2. Grow your social network by circling other people (and in return having others circle you – more about all that jazz in my book "Google+ for Small Businesses" http://www.lynetteyoung.com/books)
3. Research Google Authorship and make sure you are getting it 'right'
4. Increase your reach and relevancy
It takes work folks! Now get to it!!

I'm not sure it's a good thing. It would tend to let people wrap themselves even tighter in their info-bubbles.
Let's put it this way, I clicked and read Chris' post BEFORE the one above it. Why? I am connected to Chris and want to read content from someone I 'know' before I read it from other sources. THAT is the entire reason for SPYW. It may not be for everyone. I love it because I value my social graph to curate and bubble up content to me that I am interested in.
I'm sorry, but is that an original post by Chris? Or is that a comment? I'm guessing OP, but wanted to check.
And you are right, Google is favoring Google+ content, especially from big players in G+.
Original Google+ post by Chris. I don't know about 'favoring' content from 'big players' but do know – as with ANY social network – the more followers you have, the more reach you have. It's numbers and analytics, not favoritism. 😉
"Favor" is me anthropomorphizing machines. 🙂
That's an original post but a link out to a news site.
By the way, this exact same discussion was happening over at +Al Remetch Google+ about +Mark Traphagen. Good read and good discusion.
I find it funny that there is mention of the skipping of the chalice at Catholic masses. I'm Catholic and I haven't sipped from the chalice in years…I have no desire to drink from the same cup as my entire congregation does. There's an easy way to prevent the flu virus from spreading.
Just today someone discovered a Quora board I run when they were searching for the topic of the board. My board came up high in her search because I'm in her Google network. She was very pleased with the result because she said she'd rather follow a board by someone she already knows and trusts. Win!
+Mark Traphagen Superb example of social recommendation working the way it's supposed to work!
Doesn't matter if you did. This strand wasn't part of the serum 🙁
