I use Hangouts about multiple times a day and use Hangout on Air a fair amount for my own business and my clients. Before everyone in Google+ had access to Hangout On Air, I was part of a test group that could broadcast. During that time I wrote a set of instructions and guidelines to help get people acclimated to how the process works – but thought that it would be beneficial to others now that everyone has the ability to run a broadcast.
This document is customized for my own use, but it should still be helpful to anyone wanting an easy to understand. I try to keep it updated as I need and as Hangout improvements are made, but please understand the document is first and foremost for my and my clients use!
Enjoy!

This is very helpful +Lynette Young . Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for sharing. I've got to create instructions for HOA guests and this will help.

I've been wanting to host some on-air hangouts, so this is perfect. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks +Lynette Young … that's a very useful pdf for guests. Do you perhaps also have an instruction sheet that helps the host set up an HOA? I'm now comfortable with holding regular Hangouts but I'm still confused how to do my first HOA 🙁
Thank you 🙂
+Dave Williams I'll see about adding it to the doc! As the HOA host:
1) YOU need to start the Hangout and click the "enable Hangout on Air" checkbox. Right now this must be done before you start the Hangout. You can't go back later and decide to make it a HOA.
2) YOU are the only person permitted to add new invites to the Hangout. (Unlike 'regular' hangouts where others are permitted to invite others in.)
3) In order to start the actual broadcast, YOU need to push the START BROADCAST button. You are the only one with this ability. You can also take the broadcast offline if you choose.
Hope that helps!
yup… that makes it appear a simple process…. thx. However, after watching other G+ HOA tutorials, I get confused with setting up the YouTube account, finding the YouTube URL embed code, directing non-G+ viewers to where to find that URL, stopping the broadcast, and accessing the final recording URL on YouTube so that the archive can continually be reviewed. There appears much to learn and practice.
+Dave Williams agreed, you have to know your way around YouTube a tiny bit to get the recording. "Average" business users that don't work with the technology usually need a bit of a leg-up getting around. The embed codes are all right in the Hangout now (upper right corner) – it's in the PDF!
Thanks again… I do appreciate the encouragement 🙂
Very very helpful – thanks so much for sharing +Lynette Young !! We just purchased hi def cameras to start hanging out.
Hi +Edward Weinstein Love to connect and learn how you plan to use your hi def cameras.
+Jennifer Gardella and I got them as a way to hang out and easily shoot videos of info for my website.
Thanks +Edward Weinstein Perhaps you could introduce me to +Jennifer Gardella ? I have a client wondering about the best way to Hangout with 3-4 people, record them and use them as training videos. I usually use Wirecast to accomplish this but am curious what can be accomplished with G+ Hangouts instead.
Just click on her name to connect with her. Keep in touch with how you are doing. We are moving in this direction and want to hear from other folks how they are doing which is why the info from +Lynette Young is so valuable.
Thanks for this post +Lynette Young. I wish I had seen it earlier in the day yesterday. Last night I ran a beta test for a hangout I'm launching for +MotoChat. I'm still trying to figure out whether I should create a new YouTube channel for it…or what others are doing in order to link the two. Any thoughts?
