It's EASY. It doesn't matter how many people follow you, but that the ones that do feel loved, seen, heard, and respected. I strive to behave as if I have 90 followers, not 900,000. OWN your experience.
You have to earn every single person's attention & then you have to work 10x as hard to keep it. Just because people see you in here doesn't mean you have inspired them enough for a simple click to circle. Time and attention are a greater commodity than money. Do not waste people's time.
This goes 100x more for businesses or brands. Bring your "A Game". Bring your passions. If you don't care – we don't care. Our nature is not to trust you after decades of shoving sexy ads and sanitized marketing in our faces and down our throats (even if it wasn't you or your brand specifically). Make. Us. LOVE. You.
For the record, I'm still a Social Media Groupie (woot-woot!!) and work really hard at my job, for my clients/brands, for my – and above all else – for my family.
You also have to put in your time and earn your scars……..

Well said, +Lynette Young. I try to keep the same attitude you outline here. (And don't have anywhere near the number of people you do, of course.)
I try to respond to each persons comment. As long as they're not being morons or trollish… and then I'll respond more. lol
+Lynette Young : amen.
What an insightful and commendable reminder. Thank you!
in the words of Chevy Chase from Caddyshack, "Be the
balllolcat."Great article, +Lynette Young I think it's important to engage, share interesting content that might start a discussion and remember, you can't always get it right ;o)
And can definitely fit in with real life! Great words of truth!
Wow, you really do have 900k followers! If you can do that and still be interactive and personal then no wonder you're doing so well. π
+Kyle Jones true – thanks for the reminder <grin>
No problem +Lynette Young!
well stated—guess that can be applied how people conduct business also—-large companies need to respond as well to the smallest customer as well as they do to their largest customers.
You speak the truth. I do my utmost to maintain 1-on-1 interactions with every reader, follower, subscriber, fan, etc., that I can.. When someone takes the time to contact any of us at Geeks of Doom that means something to us. Some days can be a bit exhausting, but it's worth it. And while it's not my full-time job, running Geeks of Doom is certainly one of my greatest passions and the epitome of a labor of love for meβone which causes me to spend every waking moment continually trying and raise our profile with the rest of the world.
…although, I can't help but wonder what it would take to enlist your help with growing Geeks of Doom's reach. π
I want to follow those who will give me a sense that they are actually real people. I see you respond to comments +Lynette Young and I see you comment on other's posts and that makes a world of difference.
+Billy Wilson ditto fine Sir π Just stating "Be Human" doesn't work. I've seen a lot of stupid people on this planet.
thanks for advice
I feel loved π

Great story. I'll never be able to achieve that. I'm not PC and well if it comes to telling the truth or being popular I'll take the truth. People tend to get upset when you say stuff they don't want to hear. Half the populace in this country can't even look in the mirror and admit their own faults they seem to think point the finger some other place is the answer. So right off the bat that is 50% that won't get along with me.
Great Post Lynette! Point well made!
I have just started using this to comment, but I can see what you are saying
+Lynette Young Thank you for the tips.
