For me a discounted (new) iPad 2 would be worth replacing my iPad 1, just for the camera. I'm not sure I'd make the jump to an iPad 3 for the increase in cost. I use my iPad constantly for work/travel, so it's a work investment for me. I rarely bring my laptop with me anymore, unless the trip is over 3-4 days.

+Lynette Young The camera is not a great iPad feature. Way too big to negotiate for photos but you can Facetime so that is cool! And the 2 is much lighter therefore better for reading.
Lynette – If the camera is your main reason for moving on from your iPad 1, I'd say that (assuming it's approved in the new one) go for the iPad 3. The camera in the iPad 2 is BARELY usable. But, YMMV.
Yep, I know a lot of folks who are selling their iPad2's in advance of the iPad3 announcement. My hubby is one of them.
I liked my old school palm so much better!
I have an iPhone 4, so I have a camera in that. Honestly there is no reason to jump to a new iPad other than coveting them. 😉 I can see where the camera would be helpful in instances though.
when is the Ipad 3 coming?
I'll add to the voices: the camera on the iPad2 is not usable at all, even for casual shots. It has terrible resolution and very low dynamic range- it cannot get good images of bright and dark spots simultaneously. Most pictures I've taken have saturated in the bright parts. I haven't used the camera on mine since the first week I got it. If you have an iPhone4 you're much better off.
I really like the iPad2 for a lot of reasons, so don't think I'm negative on the product. But the camera could use a lot of improvement.
I'm still trying to catch up with technology. I Stil have my cell phone. Had it for five years.
+Philip Plait thanks for that! All in all I don't think I'll upgrade, much to the disappointment of my kids who will not be inheriting my old iPad 😉
i love ipads they are so awesome they need to much iternet but there so good to resist
