Apparently the book is satire (the author Whitney Darrow was a satire cartoonist for the New Yorker) and was originally published in 1970. This could have easily been a 'first book' of mine as a child. Chances are I would have drawn over the captions and made up my own – more modern – versions.

Oh dear GOD! with this PC garbage ever stop? You lost the cold war people, librilism doesnt work, move on!
nice…the prince
;o) LOL
Wow, trolls with poor spelling!
It's an interesting choice to show girls cooking with a BBQ. Men who don't ordinarily cook still see the grill as their own domain — unlike the indoor stove.
am i a "troll" and yes, i am a disabled person. Feel free to through all the dirt your willing too.
Haters gona…
I think the interesting thing here is not the mundane, well-known gender roles during and after second-wave feminism. The interesting thing is that Darrow let his satire slip for a moment when he portrayed a strong heroine commanding a train of wagons…he could easily have made the girl a damsel in distress! Btw, full pictures here: http://michiedo.blogspot.com/2008/12/im-glad-im-boy-im-glad-im-girl.html
Oh, and the full set of pictures reveals a blatant case of heteronormativity!
Had to cringe at the "boys are pilots..girls are stewardesses " but as a male airline pilot i know only too well how hard it is for ladies to get into this trade.
The males dominate the training and the licencing and until we get some more younger free thinking individuals its set to continue.
thanx for the share,,v cool.
+Lynette Young You know what's really scary? I DID have this book as a child! LOL Wow… Reading it this morning, it's shocking how sexist things were back in the day!!
PS…I'm also disabled, and as far as I know, I'm not a Troll, nor is my spelling atrocious, and my anger out of control 😉
+tommi dubois If this book came out before 1973, that would have been accurate. IIRC from my visit to the Cradle of Aviation, it took until 1973 for a woman to hold a position as a commercial pilot. Women had been flying very early on and flew during WWII, but on the airlines people flew, they were the stewardesses, not the pilots.
+Marc Chiarini thank you for your intelligent comment! I truly appreciate it.
So i am guessing i am stupid, i was just trying to start folks talking about the topic for once. and oh boy, peeps can use a dictionary. Please feel free to add any opinions, and of course there are exception to the rule. but, as Rome fell so will the UK.
Currently there are 5,636 active female ATPs (Airline Transport Pilots) out of a total of 144,600 total ATPs (3.9%), however, not all may work for major airlines.
Looking at other pilots besides those who work for airlines, out of 125,738 Commercial Pilots, 8,289 (6.6%) are female and out of 211,619 Private Pilots, 14,322 (6.8%) are female.
Clearly getting more women involved and interested in aviation is something the whole aviation community needs to work on.
sorry to go off track a little but im sure lynette is all for womens rights to wich i agree completely.
+Robert Schwak Your approach to sparking conversation leaves much to be desired! You mentioned that you are disabled. Out of curiosity, are you using an alternative input method (e.g., speech recognition, eye movement, etc)? This is one of the very few ways in which I can explain your shorthand. Btw, did you mean to suggest that the US will fall, and not the UK (already fallen) 😉 ?
agree..not at all sure where Robert schwak is coming from.
and im not too proud to say..i dont know how to do the thing on google plus that puts another plusers name on my comment.
+tommi dubois Google Chrome has a little app you can add to the browser that gives you a "reply to author" option. Otherwise, simple type a plus sign, and the user name 🙂
Nope, Listen, my family lives here and in the UK, I know we are in a very bad spot with our debt, but, I will not put down others to make myself look smart. hehe
+Tami McVey ….Yayy…i knew it was something simple…thanx very much…ill shut up now and let the conversation continue
