Whoa. Here's a blast from the past! This was my very first opinion of Google+ written back on July 1, 2011 (just a few days after the platform opened to 'closed beta'). So – how many of my 'predictions' came true? How many features of Google+ were either removed or combined into something else (Sparks anyone?)
You can also see how drastically the layout has changed from back then. It seems just like yesterday – but at the same time a million years ago!
Also: I WAS RIGHT (Ha! to some of my old-timer friends). Google+ is an amazing platform if you actually participate!
I have to chuckle because I work with companies and professionals all the time that want to skyrocket immediately with followers. Well, here's proof hard work and expertise get you someplace… there are screenshots of my 50 followers (and the 35 I circled back)!
Of particular note from the article:
Brands and Businesses
On my third day in Google Plus I started seeing companies show up to the party (+Ford Motor Company and +HubSpot for example.) I can’t begrudge them for wanting to come in and experiment at all. What I will be on the lookout is to see if businesses regurgitate content from Facebook and fret over how many circles they are in (which would be the closest relation to a Fan Page count). Please, I’m begging you, do something different. Innovate. Create. Find the box and kick the snot out of it – but whatever you do, don’t go IN the box please.

I received an invite within hours of it hitting closed beta to the highly-leaked new social networking platform from Google called Google+. After playing with the platform for about three days now, I’d like to share some of my initial thoughts, reactions, and predictions.
Google+: Reshared 2 times
Google+: View post on Google+
Whot take my bisnas ricive
It's hard to believe G+ is two already…
Unreal. Agreed 100% about the damn box. I suspect if I mapped out my feelings about Google+ on a graph, my interest in the platform would correlate negatively with how many businesses and people have come in and forced it to feel like every other social network out there.
Thanks for being here +Lynette Young
I love the great content you post.
Nice job, +Lynette Young. That interface is definitely a blast from the past. 🙂
Hi
I think we (FMC) found the box +Lynette Young …
But are we kicking the snot out of it?
<NotQuiteSureWhatThatMeans>
How much snot did you have in the box in the first place, +Robert Wallis?
+Christina Trapolino sometimes (well, nearly every single day) I want to jump up and down and yell at people not to bring over old habits and stale ideas.
That box everyone loves to hide inside needs a blowtorch set to it.
Plenty.
