Today is the kind of day where I know I need to stay offline. I am seething with anger over a few work/industry-related things and if I turned the filter from my brain to my mouth off I'd have people with straight jackets knocking on my door. I'm also highly disappointed in myself for allowing myself to get passed over again and again as well as purposely seeking out opportunities to get treated like a doormat – to the point where I am actually giving up on the very industry that I exist in. The high road just doesn't pay and I'm sick of lining other people's wallets.

Bravo to you.
Go Girl!! Thank those people, situations that are causing you to take a stand for what feels right for YOU! 😀 Happy days.
Well said.
Sometimes it seems like the high road doesn't pay, especially short term. Over longer spans though karma is a bitch and those of us that take that high road sleep better.
step back and take a couple of steps sideways and look at the thing from a different angle.
do it more than once and compile and correlate all the new data.
pretty good corporatespeak for an old cretin.
just don't get wound up behind crap others do.
Its always a good then when we can know ourselves well enough to know we need to sit down and breathe and relax before we send a heated email/text/tweet whatever. Its not easy, but is oh so much better for us.
If you need to vent, do it offline. Take pen to paper, and let your feelings flow. Don't edit, don't judge. Just write. Then put it away, and do something that inspires you.
hugs
I have a blog just for getting this kind of BS out. When Trend Micro mistakenly destroyed my entire business I had somewhere to voice my anger +Lynette Young. Go the the mall, have a few drinks and go shopping. Then have a few more. This is also why I run members sites instead of speaking, books, etc. Having a Sybex editor that did not understand the word "Conversion" was the last straw for me. LOL
I think we all have those days where we question the wisdom of the choice to stay above all the crap – you are one of the most remarkable women I've met here on the Plus and I'm so glad you are here. <3
Yep, been working in the IT field for quite some time — and one thing I've found that it's the most bizzaro world that ever existed. For instance, people getting promoted that shouldn't — people getting fired that shouldn't — and don't even let me go into how people get used up in the IT field. All I can say is that I can relate to how you feel — because I've been there myself. I worked 19 years at one company — made them millions of dollars but ended up getting the rear end boot because of my objections to an improperly installed computer system. Although the system did do a crash and burn as I warned them it would do — I was treated like a doormat for being honest and trying to do right. Before I was terminated — I was constantly lambasted in meetings for idiot type stuff. For instance, in one meeting I was yelled at and instructed that you can never say the word "failed" for a half hour because I had mentioned that a process failed to generate a file properly. So again, I know how you feel — but in any case don't let it get you down — and don't let these things cause your talents to be hindered.
Yes any kind of can make you feel like that. But you just make the best of the situation and always remember that you know how good you are and if they can't see that, then start looking for a company that will or branch out on your own.
+Kalisha Gary I'm self employed. But thanks 😉
I find that as a woman in the IT Industry, we are forced to constantly decide between the wisdom of silence or the freedom of a verbal atom bomb. Stay focused, lady. You are remarkable.
I'm sorry. I was reading your post and I really liked it because I can see that you are passionate about what you do and I'm also self-employed and just started. I will be keeping up with you and I know I can learn some things from you.
It will get better. 🙂
+Chris Lang and +Kristin Moran share some great advice. Writing so helps me when I am feeling down and out. Feel better +Lynette Young!! xoxo
+Lynette Young : Maybe in that same vein, you just find a friend who is usually on Gchat and just have an agreement than you can totally unload on said person when needed. That's what friends are for right? Telling them all the things you feel while not ruining a job or professional relationship?
I always say, "if I'm not the flow, than I go with the flow".
Flow with the 'Go'…and those deep breaths and venting options are right on the money too! I also appreciate the comment about developing a different perspective and seeing what you can do differently to develop a broad range of responses that work for you!
I dont understand, you are very smart
Sorry to hear your day is not going so well! It is quite impressive that you can step back and stop yourself before saying something online or in an email that you would regret. Many people have a hard time with this (as I have a time or 2 also in the past) and they end up regretting what they say. I have been following you here for a while and know you are an intelligent woman and a great inspiration to many.
Take your time today to regain your thoughts and know we value you here! I hope your day gets better
Take the time you need, Lynette.
I don't comment much – but you are in my must-read list of people.
And I do understand.
The suggestion to write it all out on paper and file it away (in a sealed envelope, to be destroyed soon) will at least release some of the anger.
The bigger problem is re-thinking your business approach and I wish you peace while you face that!
Like your post and your will power to step away from the keyboard. Enjoy your day off.
🙁 Hang in there Lynette.

It's no different in IM +Lynette Young… It's just how it is some days.
I have been thru this twice in the last 12 years of making my living online, you get kinda used to it after a while.
When is that book of yours due out? Let's just move on huh?
