Ridic.
WOW!
I'm in the wrong line of work.
That's like a Dr. Evil amount of money!
HEY FACEBOOK! I have a little thing here I wrote that you really need. How about $100,000? (I'm not greedy)
If you can’t beat 'em… buy 'em.
They have so much money, surely they want to spend it on something useful.
It shouldn't. The name of the game now is marketing and user interface. Apple teaches us that. The products can't just be good, they have to be good, easy (or learnable), fill a need and market themselves well as 'a product that is like you.' It is a good lesson – we aren't just making software, we are making lifestyle tools. One is worth $1 an app, the other is worth $1 Billion a company.
With 7 employees… Yes, it's the wild west. Few are building real companies. They're building features they hope a real business will buy before they run out of money. It's a perverse version of entrepreneurship. What I mean by perverse is this: http://www.businessinsider.com/entrepreneurs-should-be-solving-real-problems-not-creating-apps-2012-3
Time for anti-trust thinking applied to FB? Certainly it is time for anti-creepy thinking. At a time when the excesses of capitalism are everywhere, and we need a new breed – I don't this Zuckerman and FB are it.
I'm glad that I uninstalled the Droid Instagram app yesterday.
mmm… tasty database of iphone cell numbers & users…
It's not the acquisition that surprises me, it's the money. FB needs good mobile photo tools – it's a good percentage of the way pics get into the platform.
Was not impressed with Instagram. In my view it was a hype.
I deleted my account before facebook gets their nasty fingers on my account. https://instagram.com/accounts/remove/request/
Total waste of money in my opinion.
+Jill Brady What AAPL teaches us is that any brand needs a fandom. Somebody who would buy the same iphone as the previous was. And somebody who would use any new gadget just because it came from the same brand. So yeah, 1 billion for 7 people company is justified.
probably for patent rights. patents are a big thing with websites/software.
Please buy my company Myandroid. Com
All in one snap. The picture is now worth a billion words. Group Hug!
+Stan Podolski For better or worse, this is the business model. In many ways, it always has been. It's not what you sell, to a large extent, it's how you sell it. So therefore, yes, fandom is important. If you can get your product to have social status and a dedicated following, we should mock you for the money you can then make? Clearly, you are doing something right.
Unbelievable isn't it? No a dime of revenue, all expense, and it gets purchased by Facebook. I'm just astonished.
when it was Apple iOS only android users raged. When they finally came out with it on Android, hardly anyone cared. I never got attached. it's yet another social application i don't need to waste time in. If i wanted to play with my photos, my android already does more than what instagram could ever do.
Hardly anyone cared? Are you kidding?
It's not about how much it can do..it's about how simple it is. THAT'S why Instagram became successful, by being simple. No one debates that there aren't more capable and feature-rich apps out there, but why aren't any of them as successful as Instagram?
eish. . . id say there is more to this.! what part of the 1billion is cash and what part are shares. . ? either way im sure there is more to this.
The only reason there wasn't a rabid hullaballoo about Instagram for Android release is because, like Path, the lag between iOS and Android release was too long. There's a finite amount of time to build a critical mass of dedicated users.
That said, $1 billion is enough money for Facebook to throw around. Especially with Timeline, which is more reliant on images and image sharing than previous versions – investing in the simplicity of Instagram is worth a lot right now and in the future.
Either way, the Instagram folks made out like bandits.
It's sickening. I bring blankets and socks to people who live on the street. To stand in their reality and thing of some rich white people paying a billion dollars is repulsive. To stand in my world of lower working class it is repulsive. Money making and fiscal success is what brought about the downfall of America. Don't you people get it? Capitalism and its excesses ruined our Nation. There is no difference between Zuckerman and a Wall Street robber baron. Stop debating the merits of Instagram. The point here is obscenity in the face of America's current situation. Rich white pigs, whether young or old, bankers or social mediaists, work counter to the welfare of the rest of our country. Do not applaud this. Pray Americans have any rights and any privacy left at all by 2014.
every time I heard 'facebook'..now I'm having a migraine.
I could not agree more.

It is unacceptable. This isn't a tech bubble it's a cauldron of insanity bubbling over.
+Lynette Young Well, FYI, my mobile apps Timstagram and Timterest are available – both could be H U G E !
