Today Friday May 18th is Lupus Awareness Day (should be every day in my opinion…) so you may find a few 'hashtags' floating around – #PutOnPurple (& my favorite #suckitlupus). It's a sucky thing to have and usually kicks you right in the gut when you least expect it or can deal with it. It doen't only affect the person with Lupus, but their families and community. No two people are affected in the same way. Looks are deceiving, it's a crippling disease. Don't be fooled.
Sadly I know a few ladies with Lupus – even one person is too much. Wear purple today to show support, donate some money if you can, and above all else – be sure to reach out to anyone you know affected and help them any way you can. Drive their kids to school or pick them up, run to the grocery store, walk their dog, sit and BS with them, drive them to treatment, love them and listen to them. Too far away to help? Make assine memes on the 'net and make them laugh and send hugs. Let them know you care and love them.

A college student here in Atlanta just died from complications from Lupus a few days after taking her finals for her Master's degree. Her family will accept the honors at the graduation. The students said she was so smart and everyone wanted to be like her. She never let the disease stop her.
Honestly, I have never heard of this disease. Thank you, +Lynette Young, for bringing this to my attention. I will read more about this!

Haven't seen that show, only heard about it. Don't watch too much TV, rarely any downtime.
Whenever we go hiking in the Berkeley hills, I point to some beautiful purple flowers and tell my wife "Oh look honey, it's lupus!" After a momentary startle, she replies "Lupin, That's lupin."
My friend has that. Feel bad for her
