It's a sad, sad state of our world when women die every day of cancer and breast cancer. Worse yet is a $100k+ salary and first class travel all the time with money that is supposed to be finding cures and treatments.
Politics and religion should have NO PART in Komen or any other fundraising entity when it comes to healthcare. Greedy, selfish bitches these Komen higher-up's are. They should drop to their knees and pray to the universe they are never stricken with the very cancer they parade around pretending to raise money for.
Don't let the door hit you on the way out…

http://www.ibcresearch.org/ is where I'll be sending my money to directly in Susan Niebur's (@whymommy) memory. Komen won't be getting one pink penny from me any longer.
I think Nancy Brinker (founder and CEO of Komen) is herself a breast cancer survivor. Still doesn't excuse the politicization of the charity nor the pinkwashing that it enables.
There's all kinds of cures that have been discovered but if you believe in a cure there's no need for the billions spent on pharmaceuticals. (Until big money is out of the picture nothing will change) It's a dirty industry.
Good News…she should have stepped down long ago. A lot of people work too hard to raise that money. I hate those who abuse Power..
She is. Politics and religion have no part in cancer research and fundraising for research. The current state of our politics in the United States prove (to me anyhow) that religion and science don't mix.
+Carol Lawrence I wonder what Komen would do if a vaccine was discovered that cured breast cancer 100% of the time. Would they support it, knowing that their $400 million/year charity would evaporate? Would they pivot their organization and money to some other form of cancer or another disease?
They really shot themselves in the foot by pulling out funding to Planned Parenthood. It has unveiled a lot. It worked out in PP's favor, people started to directly donate to PP. It's really sad to me to see that Komen is more a business than a charity.
The question is, once funded, then funded forever? Or are they allowed to readjust their priorities?
I recently heard of a documentary that exposes the pink ribbon hypocrisy. The film is called Pink Ribbons and it was directed by Lea Pool (She's a renowned film maker from Quebec). She spent the last 6 years investigating how certain corporations exploit the cause for their benefit. You can see the trailer here. http://youtu.be/3QPZfcYTUaA My new mantra is Be aware and SHARE.
I would love to see this documentary, Yanik. I don't know enough to take a hard stance one way or another, but when I see ALL the Pink Products popping up everywhere during 'Awareness Month,' I seriously question whether all the raised revenue ends up in the right place.
I'm eager to see it as well Nikolas. This is the official website. It's showing in Canada now, but I know that it will get a US release also http://www.onf-nfb.gc.ca/eng/collection/film/?id=57943
